Hey Clay County!
There’s a new way for you to share your thoughts with the county. On the 3rd Friday of every month (sans December) at 4:00pm at the Rooney Justice Center, the county holds a Public Comment Period. Anyone is welcome to show up with a prepared comment. This can be about anything that happens to be important to you concerning Clay County—big or small.
How the Public Comment Period Works:
- Show up
- Present Comment
- Receive follow-up within 24 business hours
A Couple of Things to Keep in Mind
Your comments will be shared with the County Commission. Guaranteed. The Commissioners may or may not attend this period; if they do not attend on the day you are there, this is still a platform for you to express your thoughts and the commissioners will be made aware of them.
While your comments will be recorded and considered commissioners cannot take formal action at these periods, nor can they make an official address. Please wait for the follow-up so we can move forward together.
This is not a debate. If you’re looking for something a little more back-and-forth, I totally get it. Phone calls, emails, and face-to-face meetings are all possibilities for concerned citizens to communicate with their elected officials. Also, please know that you can still comment on agenda items at Commission Meetings!
If you have something on your mind but feel intimidated by the formality, structure, or audience of public meetings, know that this is a safe environment for your voice to be heard.
Maybe there’s a problem in your area and you want to make it known—for the record. Maybe you want to be confident your concerns will be heard by staff, administration, and elected officials as quickly as possible. Whatever it may be, feel free to come by. You’ll be invited to the table to speak your mind. If it’s not your style, it’s certainly not mandatory, but if you think it might just be, stop by and give it a shot!
